Gel Fuel Fireplace

There is nothing like curling up in front of a fire on a cold winters day. If you are not among the fortunate folks to have this luxury, there are popular options available today, which can provide you with the warmth and beauty of a fireplace.

Some people may enjoy chopping and splitting wood for a fire but, if it's not on your list of fun things to do, you don't have to be left out in the cold.  An empty wall or corner can be beautifully transformed with an addition of a gel fuel or electric fireplace. They are a perfect choice if you live in a small apartment or condo.

Each inspired fireplace is made from real wood and comes complete with a mantel and molding.
Some also double as an entertainment center. They require no ventilation and meet all clean air requirements established by both OSHA and the EPA.

Let's compare the two fireplaces and find the perfect fit for your home.

A Gel Fuel fire is an all natural, jelled alcohol that is 100% efficient and ecologically sound. Each can burns for two and a half to three hours and can be reused until empty. It even crackles just like a real fire. Although not designed as a heating source, gel fuel does provide some warmth.  You will be amazed at the robust red, yellow and orange glowing flames that create a full, wide and high fire. No chimney, no gas hookups and no electricity needed. It makes an ideal addition to any room in all types of homes adding the warmth and ambiance of a real fire without the hassle and expense of costly installations.

EXTENDING THE LIFE OF YOUR OUTDOOR FURNITURE

Autumn is just around the corner, and depending on your area of the country, the outdoor entertaining season is drawing to a close. For many folks it is the time to start thinking about winterizing the patio furniture. Most outdoor furniture is manufactured to remain outside for the winter, but taking precautions against the weather conditions will keep your patio set looking new for many years.
When you're ready to winterize, you need to take a few steps to clean and store your furniture. It's important to properly clean your furniture before storing or covering it. Most manufacturers will give you instructions for your type furniture or cushion. Vacuum or shake off outdoor cushions, spot clean with mild detergent, and let them air-dry thoroughly before storing indoors or in a watertight cushion keeper for winter. Brush loose dirt from tables and chairs, then wash with mild soapy water. Once dry, move to storage or use protective covers, and you're finished for the season.
PatioandYards.com offers protective covers from Duck Covers and KoverRoos, made of state of the art fabrics to cover everything from furniture, tables, umbrellas and grills.
KoverRoos
Outdoor furniture covers need to breathe so that moisture can escape, keeping mold and mildew from developing under the cover. KoverRoos use technologically advanced materials that are one-way breathable - moisture leaves, but dust and dirt can't get in. Water resistant and breathable, these covers are truly unique and the best that you'll find to protect fine outdoor furniture. Choose from four fabric choices.
KoverRoos Medium Oval Dining Set Cover
Features:

KoverRoos Chaise Cover

Our patented 'drain through' system for table and chair sets eliminates puddling on tabletops and chairs. And our fastening system ensures a snug fit and eliminates sagging and water puddles. No water buildup to get on someone removing the covers - they go quickly and easily into their signature storage pouches.

KoverRoos® are extremely lightweight, making them easy to put on, remove, and store. Our umbrella cover weighs a mere 10 ounces and is a breeze to put on. Like all of our covers, it easily folds up for storage. No rods to screw in or lose and no jam-prone telescoping poles. A chaise cover can be removed and stored in 60 seconds.

Every product, including our umbrella cover, has a storage pouch to store KoverRoos® right near the furniture. KoverRoos® are the only covers with this feature. Some of our chair cover pouches can even be conveniently attached directly to your furniture or used as a pillow.

To clean your KoverRoos® cover, just wipe and rinse. You can use a mild solution of warm soap and water. You can also safely wash KoverRoos® in a front-loading washer. Wash in cold water, do not use detergent, and hang to dry. Do not place your KoverRoos® in a dryer, as high heat can destroy the fabric. Always store your cover dry.

How to Measure for  Sling Replacement

We have had a busy season with customers ordering replacement slings for their patio furniture. Due to the fact that our patio slings are made from direct customer measurement specifications, it is very important to accurately measure your sling furniture before ordering. Below are detailed instructions on how to make these measurements of your outdoor patio sling furniture accurately.  Like the old saying goes, "measure twice and cut once."

Instructions:

When measuring a sling for replacement, make sure the measurements are taken while the sling is still tightly installed in frame, even if the fabric is cut or ripped. Taking measurements from just the sling will result in an inaccurate size. Measure to the nearest 1/8″ and do not add more. We will add the necessary fabric for seams.

A tailors measuring tape should be used to measure with as it can follow the contour of the chair which is necessary to get an accurate measurement.
Measure the width starting about 3″ from the top of the sling and by identifying the center of the sling rail channel as shown.Measure across to the center of the channel on the other side to the closest 1/8″.

Do not take measurements from the very top or the very bottom as the sling tends to flare out.Measure the width of both the back and seat of the chair as they may differ slightly.

Measure the width of the seat in the same manner as the width of the back was measured. Start about 3″ from the bottom edge at the center of the rail channel and measure straight across to other center of the other rail channel. Take measurements to the nearest 1/8″.

To measure the sling length, start at the very top edge of fabric. Measure the entire length making sure to follow the curves of chair. Following the edge will give you an accurate measurement remembering to round down and not up to the nearest 1/8″.

When taking measurements of your sling furniture, make sure to gather measurements from several of your sling chairs in the set to make sure there are no random variations. Do not alter or add any adjustments to your measurements. We will add any necessary seams and material necessary for a perfect fit!

We offer replacement slings for chairs, ottomans and chaise lounges. Our prices range from $24-$86.

If you have questions or concerns when measuring for your slings, give us a call at
877-246-3871 and we will be happy to assist you!

Removing Summer Stains

July 16, 2013

The kids are home from school and the age old family tradition of the backyard barbecue is in full swing. Along with the barbecues comes the likelihood that someone will leave behind a little mustard, ketchup or red wine stain on your beloved patio cushions. Chances are also good that your favorite songbird might leave behind a little gift of their own. It has happened to all of us at one time or another. This month we wanted to share with you some cleaning solutions for those pesty stains from the good folks at Sunbrella.

One of the best ways to keep Sunbrella fabrics looking good and to delay deep or vigorous cleaning is to properly maintain the fabrics. This can be accomplished by simply brushing off dirt before it becomes embedded in the fabrics, wiping up spills as soon as they occur or spot cleaning soon after stains occur.

Bird droppings: Dishwashing liquid (2 oz.) / 1 gallon water, or try Goo Gone Grease Cutter (a hand cleaner), Greased Lightning, or Clean Rite Purple Power (available at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc.)

Ketchup or Mustard: Dishwashing liquid (2 oz.) / 1 gallon water

Mildew: Bleach (1 cup) / Dishwashing liquid (2 oz.) / 1 gallon water

Suntan Lotion: Pine Power® or pine oil detergent / water (mix as directed)

Wine:  Dishwashing liquid (2 oz.) / 1 gallon water / ammonia (4-8 oz.) / white vinegar (3 oz.)

Check back with us soon at www.patioandyards.com/  for more tips on cleaning those summer stains.

Play in Style, Rest in Style!

Wake Board Table/Seat

I have always heard that April showers bring May flowers. For us living along the chain of lakes made up by the Catawba River, it brought localized flooding. The local meteorologist warned us that the storm front was a slow mover and was expected to douse us with record rainfall. They sure called that right.  I reminisce about the old days when the locals would rely on the Farmer’s Almanac to predict the weather as they made plans to plant their crops. These days we are lucky if the fancy Doppler radar gets it right half the time.

Berley Wake Board Bench
After the front passed Lake Norman was above full pond, which for us is 760 feet above sea level. The avid water skier enthusiasts saw it as an opportunity to hone their skills. There were those brave few that decided to tackle the obstacle course of floating tree limbs and debris that Mother Nature left behind. I was amazed to see the ease of one skier practicing his back-to-front flip.  I can tell you that the last time that happened to me it was not on purpose! It was however humorous for those watching from the boat.

You have to admire the passion these folks have for their sport. Whether it is water or snow skiing, wakeboarding, hockey or baseball, avid sports fans enjoy paying tribute to their sport.  Does this describe you or someone you know?  You should take a look at the sports furniture line we carry. Our motto is “Play in Style, Rest in Style!

Spring Forward with Teak Furniture

Now that the dreary days of winter are behind us, it’s time to get outside on the patio and enjoy these beautiful spring days.  Many of you were pounded with rain and snow this past year and it may have left your patio furniture in less than favorable condition.  We offer a variety of patio furniture and cushions to spruce up your outdoor living space.  The one I would like to share information with you about this month is our teak collection.

As many of you may know, we are in the process of restoring our beloved 1968, 37' all wood, Egg Harbor boat, Sinbad.  During this process we realized that after all the years of service the old girl had seen, the teak platform at her stern was still in great condition.  This is what inspired me to tell you about the benefits of owning teak patio furniture.

Teak has long been heralded as a wood known for its durability and longevity. In fact, in the eighteenth century, it was almost exclusively used on seagoing vessels as decks and railings, specifically because of its resistance to weather and water damage.  It was the wood garnished from these vessels, once they were retired, that was used to construct the first teak outdoor furniture.

With a history like that, it’s easy to see why this tropical wood is generally regarded as one of the premier materials for building outdoor furniture, be it teak sun loungers, deck chairs, tables, or benches.  In fact, it has been known to last for a hundred years and running, truly making teak furniture the last outdoor furniture you’ll ever need to buy.

As teak weathers over time, the wood goes from a honey brown color to a silvery gray. The natural oils and rubber found within teak, protect the heart of the wood from invaders like fungi and parasites that can destroy other woods. Protecting other wooden furniture from such intruders requires applications of weatherproof oils and treatments; not so with teak.

If you decide to take the plunge and spring for well-made teak patio furniture, there’s not much you will have to do in the future other than sit back and enjoy it.  http://www.patioandyards.com/Quality_Teak_Furniture_s/61.htm

Lake Maps and other things

We are always looking for new and innovative products to represent on our PatioandYards website. As mentioned in earlier post, we travel to a lot of industry shows to seek out what we consider unique and well made items that we would be proud to offer on our website. What a surprise it was when we discovered a very small family run business right in our own home town that makes laser cut wooden lake signs.

One of our best selling items over this past Christmas season was undoubtedly our Wooden Laser Cut Lake Maps. These beautiful works of art make not only great Christmas gifts, but are perfect anytime of the year for anyone living on any body of water, waterway or coastline anywhere in the nation What a beautiful home accent that can be the center piece on any wall!

Each map is individually made and the natural wood grain in the wood is enhanced by a hand rubbed stain and then followed by three coats of lacquer creating a magnificent finished product. Our customer can choose to receive it with a beautiful wood frame or without.

During the initial process our customers are asked if they would like certain points of interest included in the map, such as the location and name of marinas, parks, recreation areas, etc. We can also have their personal family names etched onto the map and even provide a Swarovski Crystal that can be added to show where their home is located.

We live on Lake Norman in North Carolina, and our Lake Norman Wood map hangs right over our fireplace in the living room. It’s gorgeous and when friends 1st come to our house we invariably end up in front of the map pointing out where we live and then tracing out the route that we’ll take to say a restaurant out on the lake.

By the way, the lake maps come in several different sizes and we can even have them made up from 23” x 15” up to about 6 ft. x 4ft. See picture!

On another note, we just opened another website where we are offering hospital and waiting room furniture. Once again, we found another manufacturer right here in our home town that just started producing what we are calling Healthline Furniture. So if you are visiting your local Doctor’s office, hospital or Urgent Care facility and you notice that their waiting room furniture is looking tired and worn out, we appreciate it if you could direct them to www.healthlinefurniture.com .

Thanks, you guys are Great!! Keep Warm!
