I have always heard that April showers bring May flowers. For
us living along the chain of lakes made up by the Catawba River, it brought localized flooding. The local meteorologist warned us that the storm front was a slow mover and was expected to douse us with record rainfall. They sure called that right. I reminisce
about the old days when the locals would rely on the Farmer’s Almanac to predict
the weather as they made plans to plant their crops. These days we are lucky if the
fancy Doppler radar gets it right half the time.

After the front passed Lake Norman was above full pond, which for us is 760 feet above sea level. The avid water skier enthusiasts saw it as an opportunity to hone their skills. There were those brave few that decided to tackle the obstacle
course of floating tree limbs and debris that Mother Nature left behind. I was amazed to see the ease of one skier practicing
his back-to-front flip. I can tell
you that the last time that happened to me it was not on purpose! It was however humorous for those watching from the boat.

You have to admire the passion these folks have for their sport. Whether
